Recently Government reported that it has cancelled more than 11.5 lakhs PAN Card in a bid to weed out duplicate and fake cards. \u00a0<\/strong>As per Income Tax Laws one person can hold only one PAN Card. However it was found that there had been multiple duplicate PAN cards issued to same person. Also there were cases where a PAN card was allotted to non-existent person. The government hopes to get rid of more such duplicate\/forged PAN cards as they get linked to Aadhaar Number.<\/p>\n

Also as there has been so many PAN card cancellations, its important for tax payers to check if their PAN card is still active as more often than not a few genuine people also suffer when such actions take place. Deactivating PAN can seriously jeopardize person financial transactions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Below is step by step instructions and screenshot to check if your PAN card is still active.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Step 1:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0Go to www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in <\/a>and Click “Login Here” (It does not matter if you are registered user or not)<\/p>\n

Step 2:<\/strong> <\/span>On Menu Click on Services >>\u00a0\u2018Know Your PAN\u2019 (there is NO need to Login)<\/p>\n

Step 3:<\/strong><\/span> A small Form opens as shown below\u00a0where you need to fill up details such as name, status, date of birth and contact number.<\/p>\n

Step 4:<\/strong><\/span> On the next page you have to enter OTP (one Time Password) received on the phone\u00a0hit \u2018Validate\u2019.<\/p>\n

In case there are more than one PAN card registered with the above details, a message appears saying \u201cThere are multiple records for this query. Provide additional information.\u201d<\/strong><\/em> Enter some more details such as your father\u2019s name.<\/p>\n

Step 5:<\/strong><\/span> On the final page, if the PAN number is not duplicated, it will be indicated as \u2018Active\u2019 under the \u2018Remarks\u2019 column.<\/p>\n
