Income Tax Return Filing is an annual process and so the website is not used frequently by most people. So many tax payers tend to forget the password for https:\/\/incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in<\/a> .<\/strong> Also there are cases where someone else like your CA or tax consultant used to file ITR for you and now he does not want to share this password. What can be done in these cases?<\/p>\n

Worry NOT there is multiple ways to reset the password.<\/strong> We show you one by with screenshot<\/p>\n

Remember the User ID for income tax e-filing is you PAN Card Number<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Use Net-banking to Reset tax e-filing Password<\/h2>\n

I personally find it easiest way to reset the password and can be used if the mobile\/email associated with the tax e-filing has changed.<\/strong> There are 35 banks which provide facility to login to income tax efiling website through their net banking interface. These are the same banks which you can also use to generate EVM to e-verify your tax return. Below is the list of banks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Login to your respective net banking interface and look for tax related links.<\/strong> We have screenshots for ICICI Bank, SBI (State Bank of India) and HDFC Bank.<\/p>\n

The only requirement is your PAN number should be correctly updated in your bank account.<\/strong> Once you login you can change your password through Profile Settings > Change Password<\/p>\n

ICICI Bank Net-banking to Rest Income Tax e-fling password:<\/h3>\n

Step 1:<\/strong> <\/span>Login to your ICICI Bank Net Banking<\/p>\n

Step 2:<\/strong><\/span> On menu choose Payments & Transfer >> Tax Centre<\/p>\n

Step 3:<\/strong><\/span> It will take you to next page with following options. Click on e-File\/ e-Verify Your Tax Returns<\/p>\n

Step 4:<\/strong> <\/span>You’ll get confirmation page. Check the box and click OK<\/p>\n

Step 5:<\/strong> <\/span>The above action directs you to income tax efiling website – which is logged in to your account. You can now either file your returns or change your password from Profile Settings >> Change Password<\/strong><\/p>\n

SBI Bank Net-banking to Rest Income Tax e-fling password:<\/h3>\n

All the process is similar as in the case above. Just giving screenshot in case of SBI to find e-filing in Menu.<\/p>\n

The process remains the same. Just find this under Request >> Income Tax E-Filing<\/p>\n

I think net banking is the best way to reset password for income tax efiling website.<\/p>\n

However if you do not have net-banking or are not comfortable doing so – you can try the following ways:<\/p>\n

    Reset tax e-filing Password (traditional way):<\/h2>\n

    Step 1:<\/strong> <\/span>Go to Login Screen and Choose Forgot Password?<\/p>\n

    Step 8:<\/strong> On success, the user must enter the New Password and confirm the password.<\/p>\n

    Once the password has been changed a success message will be displayed. User can\u00a0login with new password.<\/p>\n

    Upload Digital Signature Certificate<\/h3>\n

    Step 4:<\/strong> Select \u2018Upload Digital Signature Certificate\u2019 from the drop down available<\/p>\n

    Step 5:<\/strong> User can select any one of the two options provided: New DSC or Registered DSC<\/p>\n

    Step 6:<\/strong> User must Upload Signature File generated using DSC Management Utility and click on the \u201cVALIDATE\u201d button. The DSC is validated.<\/p>\n

    Step 7:<\/strong> On success, the user must enter the New Password and confirm the password.<\/p>\n

    Step 8:<\/strong> Click on \u201cSUBMIT\u201d<\/p>\n

    Once the password has been changed a success message will be displayed. User can login with new password.<\/p>\n

    Using OTP (PINs)<\/h3>\n

    Step 4:<\/strong> Select \u2018Using OTP (PINs)\u2019 from the drop down options available and click on CONTINUE button.<\/p>\n

      Using Aadhaar OTP<\/h3>\n

      To generate Aadhaar OTP, Taxpayer\u2019s PAN and Aadhaar must be linked.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Step 4:<\/strong> Select \u2018Using Aadhaar OTP\u2019 from the drop down available and click on CONTINUE button.<\/p>\n

      Step 5:<\/strong> User will be redirected to a page where he can confirm his Aadhaar Number. Click \u201cGenerate Aadhaar OTP\u201d.<\/p>\n

      Step 6:<\/strong> Aadhaar OTP will be generated and sent to the Mobile Number registered with Aadhaar. User must enter the Aadhaar OTP received and click on the \u201cVALIDATE\u201d button. The Aadhaar OTP is validated.<\/p>\n

      Step 7:<\/strong> On success, the user must enter the New Password and confirm the password.<\/p>\n

      Step 8:<\/strong> Click on \u201cSUBMIT\u201d<\/p>\n
