The FASTag has become mandatory from January 15, 2020 after extending the deadline twice in December. In case you are not aware, FASTag is RFID sticker which you need to paste to your vehicle windshield. The FASTag is linked to your bank account or a wallet and toll charges are automatically deducted as you zip through the toll plazas.

The biggest advantage of using FASTag is it would make tolls congestion free – saving precious time and fuel. Also, the amount received at tolls can be correctly accounted.

The only challenge is people are still getting used to this and there have been challenges in implementation at some tolls. There have been instances of multiple charges even when the car passed the toll once. Then there have been cases when RFID reader was not able to detect the tag and user had to pay in cash and later realizes the amount was already deducted from FASTag. The good thing is there is FASTag helpline where you can raise your complaints and get it resolved.

In case your vehicle still does not FASTag, you would be charged double the amount if you cross the toll. Its available at various ecommerce platforms like Amazon, National Highway toll plazas and following 23 authorized banks.
